What Did You Miss at Great Parenting Academy’s 2009 Event?
"What an amazing first event!" This thought was repeated throughout the day on November 21, 2009 by attendees referring to Great Parenting Academy’s Inaugural Event in San Ramon, CA. It's also a preview of what promises to be many more coordinated events by Great Parenting Academy.November 21, 2009 kicked off with celebrity speakers, facilitated learning exercises, parental networking, motivated attendees and an array of vendor products and resources.
Facilitated-Learning Sessions
The day began with opening remarks from Great Parenting Academy founder, Terri Khonsari, followed by a series of keynote speakers who covered topics ranging from Building Self-Confidence and Positive Self-Esteem; Raising A Well Balanced Child: Happy, Healthy, Responsible and Successful; Discover Your Child's Unique Genius; and The Formula for Living a Passionate Life. During a number of the sessions, attendees were led through a series of exercises that could help them put what they learned into action.

Topic: Building Self-Confidence and Positive Self-Esteem
Who better to teach how to build self esteem that self-esteem expert, Jack Canfield?
Jack led the audience through a series of practical and powerful exercises to build and maintain high levels of self-confidence and positive self-esteem in parents and their children. From toddlers, to teenagers, to adults, self-esteem is a key pillar to happiness and success.
Jack discussed taking 100% responsibility for our actions and results, learning to control our self-talk and our self-image, accepting and expressing our emotions, accepting our body, trusting and following our dreams, setting and pursuing realistic goals, and building authentic relationships.

Topic: Raising A Well Balanced Child: Happy, Healthy, Responsible and Successful
For parents raising their children under strenuous circumstance, Terri offered practical and easy to follow principles to raising well-balanced children.
Terri talked about identifying your children’s interest and talents and then getting them involved. Whether it be academics, sports, arts, or languages, the important message was keeping children involved and teaching them to make a difference.
With this self-knowledge, parents raise children who are happy, healthy and responsible who are passionate about life and care about the human family.
Dr. Brenda Wade: Child Psychologist & Best Selling Author: Power Choices
Topic: Discover Your Child's Unique Genius
Dr. Brenda Wade encouraged parents to become facilitators in helping their children develop their own unique genius and abilities.
Rather than just pass on their hurts, parents were led through a series of chants and other exercises that allowed them to manage their own mindset.
Looking at their child as an independent person with his or her own life-purpose shifts everything about how we parent.
Janet Attwood: Educator and Best Selling Author: The Passion Test
Topic: The Formula for Living a Passionate Life
Again, the audience had the opportunity to be led through a hands-on exercise, this time to identify their top 5 passions in life.
Janet’s message was if parents led a life of passion, they will not only be happier, yet they will pass on that example and knowledge to their children.
Living a life of passion is one of the keys to living a happy vibrant life and the first step in truly understanding and bonding with your child.
