Father of Natalie Coughlin, Olympic Swimmer, Gold Medalist

Jim and his wife Zennie are parents of Natalie and Megan Coughlin. Jim is a retired police sergant, and now a grants manager, and Zennie is a legal office manager. They are working parents who raised two exceptional daughters. Throughout every phase of their daughters' lives, they have supported, embraced, and appreciated their individual development, interests and accomplishments.

Megan is an account executive at a leading software company in the Silicon Valley, and Natalie is a professional athlete. Natalie is best known for her 11 Olympic medals in swwimming. In the 2008 Olympics, she was the first female athlete in history to take home six medals at one Olympics. She was also the first woman ever to win gold in the 100-meter backstroke at two consecutive Olympics. Jim and his wife, Zennie Coughlin live in Concord, CA.

Jillayn Ghafourifar
A family of social Innovators and global citizens

Jillayn and her husband Mehdi Ghafourifar are parents of Alston (18) and Brienne (15). The family views education as a lifetime experimental journey where one size does not fit all. Alston and Brienne both graduated from high school top of their class, began their college education at the age of 14, and received numerous academic and athletic excellence in the process.

At 17 years of age, Alston received his bachelor's degree from UC Santa Cruz and today he is a founding member of Univetica, a global social initiative dedicated to promoting and protecting innovative thinking. Brienne is majoring in economics and social entrepreneurship at age of 15 and holds leadership position in several academic and community projects.

Jillayn is a director for Pillarton Corporation, a Silicon Valley capital and management strategic advisory firem and Mehdi is the chairman of Pillarton Corporation and the strategic advisor to several for-profit and non-profit organizations. Ghafourifar family lives in Santa Cruz, CA.

John Pilcher
True symbol of successful parenting


John and his wife Amber have demonstrated successful parenting in every sense. They have 9 children between the ages of 12 to 21; Three biological and six adopted. Their adoption is the largest known sibling set adoption in the history of California. Older children are in college, in the army or serving as a missionary. The younger kids are all active in extracurricular activities, sports, and arts.

Some of the children are being home schooled and some of them go to school depending on individual cases. Everyone in the Pilcher family must have a black belt and be a scout in order to be allowed to take driving lesson and get a driver's license. Respect, discipline, honesty, and achievement are top values in the Pilcher family.

Amber was awarded "Woman of the Year" for 2010 in the 4th District Assembly, State of California for her accomplishments specifically as a mother. John who is a proprietor of an insurance agency, lives with his wife, Amber, and their children in the Greater Sacramento Area.

Terri Khonsari
Moderator

Terri became a single mom at the age of 22 when her ex-husband left her and their 18 month old toddler at a train station in Germany. Born and raised in Iran, Terri didn't speak the language, didn't have any friends to go to, little money in her pocket, five suite cases to carry and her little daughter, Nilou.

Today, Nilou is a human rights attorney, speaks six languages fluently, runs marathons worldwide, participates in triathlons, loves to dance, paints and enjoys arts and music. Most importantly, this well-rounded young woman is passionate about life and everything she does.

Terri is an ambitious and successful business woman, an author and the founder of Great Parenting Academy. She is now remarried and lives with her husband, Dr. Hamid Khonsari, in San Ramon, California.
